Issue Two | Me Thu Cung – Vietnam’s only pet magazine!

Vietnam’s first and only pet magazine, Me Thu Cung, (a passion for pets – translated from Vietnamese) has published Issue 2.

Message from the Editor

Over two years to create Issue One of Me Thu Cung, and only 6 weeks to the next. A tight deadline, luckily, we have some very dedicated writers that came through for us. There were some doubts and setbacks about continuing, however we would like to thank the many people for their encouraging feedback to keep publishing and not to give up on the need for a pet magazine for Vietnam. We will not, and we have only just begun.

In keeping with the trend of the editors of this magazine presenting a ‘selfie’ portrait we present a black and white ‘selfie’. This author is an admirer of black and photography and our photo is a dedication to a photographer who has created a photo series called ‘A dude and his puppy’. With this series of photographs we introduce the ‘Pet Creatives’ gallery; dedicated to young Vietnamese artists that include the subject of pets in their work.

We must mention the cover of Issue Two, an image chosen to represent new attitudes towards pet culture and ownership in Vietnam. A young dog lover is photographed in traditional Vietnamese apparel, Áo Dài and Nón Lá, lovingly holding two very cute miniature pinscher dogs. This is a positive image and symbolic of something we like to present to the world to counter all the negative images and stereotypes about Vietnam and dogs.

And finally, we would like to introduce Ms. Vi Thao Nguyen, the co-founder of the animal lover organization, YVD. Ms. Nguyen is known as a fearless and tireless animal activist. Everything she does in her life is for the protection of animals and it is fitting to present a short story accompanied by a gallery of photographs of her Wedding that includes her favorite pets. The imagery of these photos also represents new attitudes of pet owners in Vietnam. Young pet ownership Vietnam are now making their pets part of their life and allowing them to become part of their families.

Thank you. Cảm ơn bạn.
