Wow! We did it. We survived our first year of publishing with five issues of Me Thu Cung. The year 2014 will also be considered a benchmark year for pet ownership & industry in Vietnam. The year witnessed the first annual Vietnam Animal Welfare Conference (September) held at the historic Continental Hotel in Saigon. The National Dog Shows in Vietnam, held twice a year in Hanoi and Saigon, had the most participants, sponsors and audience since their beginning in 2009. And, of course 2014 saw the birth of this magazine…

2015 and the new lunar year is being ushered in by the zodiac animal symbol of the goat, again, we would to thank Mr. Nguyen Nghĩa Trung for another powerful painting of a wild, long horned goat for the front cover. In this issue we are proud to introduce new pet content; ornamental fish and aquarium life in Vietnam. Our first articles provide the basics for setting up an aquarium and introduce a local fish breeder doing fish business for years in Saigon. It is fascinating hobby and pastime, as we are building an outside aquarium and will then create an indoor aquarium and write of our experiences.

Since this is a ‘Tet Issue’, a holiday season for family, we have a cover story about a ‘doggie couple’ brought together by their shared passion of Phu Quoc Ridgeback dogs. Rudiger and Lan are passionate breeders and they claim 30 plus dogs as their extended family. We also have a few TET gift ideas for cat owners and an article with a serious tone about giving family, or friends, a puppy or kitten over the Tet holidays. Please consider the long term requirements of owning a pet. We have included a link to a related article published in our very first issue: ‘Are you ready to become a responsible pet owner?’ Please read it before you consider a pet as a Tet gift for a loved one or friend.

Finally, I would like to personally wish everyone a happy lunar new year, beginning my wife, Khanh Ngoc and to our many volunteer content contributors. Chúc Mừng Năm Mới !!

Issue Six of Mê Thú Cưng is dedicated to the TET and the beginning of a new Lunar new year. The Zodiac that is associated with this year is the Goat. WE present a powerful image of a wild Goat by the Vietnamese Painter Mr. Nguyen Trung Nhgia

Thank you. Cảm ơn bạn.
