Adventures, misadventures and assorted tales of pet ownership and the Pet Care & Food Industry in Vietnam
Why there is a genuine need to help and educate pet owners in Vietnam
There is a real need to help Vietnamese who are either existing pet owners or new pet owners about the basics of pet health care, pet ownership and related responsibilities. Consumer education in the buying of pet related goods and services is missing; word of mouth promotion rules, but then again, advice and suggestions from peers might be misleading.
A few observations about pet ownership and the pet industry in Vietnam …
First, there is a lack of a single resource of authorative and helpful pet health care information, in Vietnamese, in either print form or online, that could be useful to pet owners that could prevent illness, harm and even death to their pets.
Second, basic consumer awareness and education about the buying of pet care, food and other related goods and services in Vietnam is almost non-existent. The responsibility of education is taken and provided by individual commercial interests, a start, but we can do better.
Third, there is no one media group of individuals researching, reporting and writing about the pet industry in Vietnam.
The Pet Industry in Vietnam is new and unregulated. A few companies, all foreign (non-Vietnamese) dominate the pet food and care markets in Vietnam offering very little product choice. No consumer education related to the Pet Industry is available, something taken for granted in Western countries.
There is very little advertising of pet products and education on the ownership of pets in the media, especially on TV and newspapers which are the dominant media channels in Vietnam. Although cable TV offers periodic pet related programs from the Discovery Channel through the Animal Planet.
So we decided to take care of business and satisfy these needs by first by creating this website and this Blog, in English and Vietnamese, that will focus on ALL things related to pet ownership, supporting consumer markets and the individuals and companies in an emerging pet industry in Vietnam.
